Sorry + Venting

I haven't been around lately, because I've been going through yet another long phase of body image issues, mental/emotional and money problems.

I don't think it's getting any better, but it could be that I'm off my meds and just not doing anything. I have too much time on my hands, but not enough motivation or memory to try and do what I should or want to be doing.

So far, nothing I've wanted to do or really needed to do has been accomplished.

It's really difficult, I just wanted to finally be accepted by more than just one or two people... And want to stop the silent harassment, the staring, the fact that I can't even go into a public place without being laughed at by teenagers or avoided because I can't help the way I look. I'm trying so hard, but this depression (or bipolar disorder according to the knew Doc) is kicking me in the ass.

I just want to be beautiful to me and to many others too... I want to be able to look in the mirror and finally say that girl is beautiful inside and out. Instead of just on the inside. (But even that is taking potshots at, no one I've met seems to believe that I'm not a moody loner or loser or something.)

They can't get past the fat, and neither can I. But I can't starve myself because then I'll be doing even more harm.

I've dealt with it for a long time, trying not to cause drama by reacting badly, or reacting at all. Especially when I get shouted at while walking down the street at times or honked at by the same ignorant strangers who don't think that I am a person with feelings...

This is why I refuse to continue being what I am now, not just getting to a smaller dress size. I just hope that with all these changes to me, that I stop being me and being someone similar to these people I dislike the most...

Lolita Blog Carnival 22: Designing Your Dream Closet

This week's Lolita Blog Carnival is about designing your dream closet... And I am big on dreaming myself. Maybe one day it'd become reality. Though staying positive isn't something I can do for long periods of time.

Since I have to share a closet with my messy sister, there really isn't very much room to do anything, unless I clean out the clutter and get rid of junk that shouldn't be there - including old clothes that we still have for some reason. No reason other than just being a bunch of pack rats.

I only have a couple of painfully plain blouses and one skirt, but I guess we all have to start somewhere, right? (The truth about why I haven't been devoted to building a nice wardrobe - lace monsters or not - is a personal story that I can tell another day)

Obviously, the first thing I would need to do (from what I learned) is to first purchase or buy the following:
  • Long-Sleeve Blouse x 2 (white or off-white and black)
  • Short-Sleeve Blouse x 2 (white or off-white and black)
  • Skirt x 2 (white or off-white and black)
  • Petticoat x 2 (white and black)
  • Socks/Stockings/Tights x 2 (white and black)
  • Dress Shoes x 2 (white and black)
  • Nice, Practical Shoes x 2 (white and black)
After that, I can add whatever I wish. These two blouses I need to replace (or I can alter them...)

DRESSES
What I would definitely put in my wardrobe - if I could - is more BTSSB dresses, especially some of their older ones.

Like this one... Hawase Doll/Rose Pattern Lace Doll OP in Pink. Mostly because I saw the dress on the lead character from Kamikaze Girls - Momoko - wear it and I fell in love. The second dress is the Marie Antoinette dress I had seen one of my lolita idols (who doesn't dress in lolita anymore and deleted her blog...) wear it once in blue.
There's also some dresses that I absolutely love... that needs to be in my life right away. Such as the Saint Claire dress by Mary Magdalene. The silhouette just captured me for some reason. I think it looks really elegant.
The colors that I would have in my wardrobe... Red of course. I still love pink and white though. I have too much black. I mean, black is elegant but I really like to have more color than that. And I've been enchanted by being dressed in all white once...

SHOES
Oh lawdy do I need better shoes for this fashion. I mean, I still have some nice shoes from my 'mall goth' days that can be used for the gothic side of the fashion. I was never into chains or spikes, so they never found their way on my feet. I need some nice white or ivory colored shoes too.

I am in LOVE with chunky heels, because I don't feel safe in stillettos. And if there's a platform in the front to level me out so I'm not balancing on my toes... that makes it even better.

Pleaser Women's Dolly-82 Platform Pumps... WANT.
Pleaser Women's Whimsey-115 Strappy Boot... Double Want
Those shoes would be for the gothic/gothic lolita side of my wardrobe.

And for the classic and sweet or general lolita side. I always wanted a pair of rocking horse shoes because they're cute as hell. And the granny boot... come on, they're lovely.

Aaandd... That's about it. Before I write a short novel with hefty picspam.

[OUTFIT] St. Valentine's Day 2013

Crown: handmade by me
Necklaces + bracelet: handmade by me
Ring: unknown
Dress: Elle
Cardigan: Koret Francisca
Shoes: Joe Boxer
Tights: George
I didn't get to go out in lolita because of my laziness. Oh well. I was only out for a few minutes - drove to get food and came back. Best. Day. Ever.

I say it wasn't worth it, I still feel bad. But I'll try to keep it to myself here.

Most of my outfit is second hand from thrifting.

[CRAFTS] Pink x White Floral Crown

Materials Used:
Ready-made faux flower bouquet
Leftover white faux flower bouquets
Floral wire
Heavy floral wire
Hot glue

Tools:
Mini Hot Glue Gun
Floral Cutter / Wire Cutter
Scissors

Time:
Approx. 5-6 hours (I worked on it on and off for 2 days)
I'm not 100% pleased with this, but oh well. I didn't need to use the really big pink flowers, and I still have a ton of flowers left over, maybe for something smaller next time. Or for a headband instead of a whole crown.

All I have to do now is finish my petticoat and skirt. I put those off for way too long anyway.

[CRAFTS] St. Valentine's Day Floral Crown WIP

Well... I could have been better arranged, but I did my best. I have one more patch to cover in the back, and then I'll try to cover up any weird 'bald' spots.

I'll be wearing this for St. Valentine's Day that I'll probably be spending indoors instead of going out. Because I was hoping to wear my new (very pink) dress outside - thus wearing lolita for the very first time. (at least something that actually looks lolita...)

Yeah, I'm nervous. I'm not a people person, but I'll try to cope with it. Because I really wanna go out in pretty clothes instead of my worn out t-shirts and sweatpants.

I don't expect anything major to happen, like me running into a potential soul mate or other nonsense like that. I just wanna go out grab something to eat and read a little at Barnes & Noble maybe.

If not, I'll stay home and roll on the floor.

Yet Another "Long time no see"

I have been neglecting this blog for two years now it looks like. And I know the reasons why: 1) I forgot 2) I've been lazy, and 3) I still don't have any suitable lolita clothes.

But I can still post about other things, like yakking about my crafts - like these flower crowns I made/am making.

Eventually I will get off my ass and start coming up with things to post to this blog that are lolita fashion related - maybe short stories and drawings - until I can stop being dumb and sew my dresses that I bought the fabric for.

Also... um... maybe I should take down the older posts. They are so embarrassing to look at. lol

So... see you later. ♥

Blast from the Past: Big Mean Pink Alice-Bow

There really isn't much to say about this monster, other than... what the crap was I thinking?! I mean... it's shaped really funny. It wasn't the fact that I had no idea what I was doing, it was the fact that my head wasn't on straight and that I had very little experience with a sewing machine. I also used satin ribbon. While there isn't anything wrong with that... I should have sewn the ribbon onto the pink fabric. I think I had a good idea going on here, but at least now I know how to learn from this. I tried again with a different one, it was plain, but only because I was planning on just testing out this Alice Bow tutorial.

I didn't use interfacing like I should have, because I didn't have any. But now I REALLY know the importance of using that, and ironing. I had an iron, but I didn't want to iron it yet, since it wasn't really 'done' yet. (It's actually just pinned together, ha ha ha...)
Here I am wearing the thing. It's just sitting on my head, as it's still just pinned together. I think I made this about a year and a half ago. When I was living in a townhouse. (As a matter of fact, I still have this bow, and I don't plan on finishing it. Maybe I'll salvage the fabric and make th e bow A LOT smaller.)

Maybe it doesn't look right because I

Long Time No See

I do apologize for not posting more often, but if you read my main 'blog' (Read: whining journal/corner of woe) @ LiveJournal, then you would understand that I constantly beat myself up about almost every single flaw I seem to have. I'm not perfect, and the 'inner self' of mine won't let me live this down.

But it's a phase I soon hope to grow out of. I shouldn't care, but I actually do. I'm sorry. I cannot hold back anymore, and watch as dust collects.

So from now on... In order to prevent the feeling of 'must beat myself up over every single failure' - I shall post more often with things I will do everyday. It shall be my challenge. If I fail this challenge, then I will delete my blog here and just go back to the way things where before.

I try to keep my drama/life/out-of-control emotions out of my hobbies such as Lolita, ABJDs, cosplay and such... So I'll leave it at that.

Also, maybe I should rename my blog, since I think that I am unfit to 'be' a Cinderella-type person. What do you think?
-------------------------------------------

My 7 Day (Lolita?) Challenge
Day 1: Reconize who you really are
Don't give into the 'bad conscience' you have. List all the things you are good at, and all the good things people had said to you. Chances are, they're probably true.

Day 2: You Are Creative
Make something. Make a wire-and-pearl crown, an alice bow or headband, anything.

Day 3: You are Kind
Say something nice/make valentines for the people you admire. Send the valentines/nice words directly to these people.

Day 4: You are Helpful
Do something that would help yourself or others, be it a task that needed to be done, an overdue chore, etc...

Day 5: You are Beautiful
Take the day off to pamper yourself, sort of like a 'princess day' - even if you already had a 'princess day' recently... do it again, and do it how you would like to. Put your hair up, dress up in some nice clothes, do it all for you, and just because you wish to do so. (Just remember that you are beautiful no matter if you're wearing rags or jeans or frills.)

Day 6: You are Adventurous/Brave
Go out and do something that you never would normally do, like taking a walk in the woods, or downtown, go sightseeing or to spend some time in a nice place you don't normally go to.

Day 7: You are Successful
Celebrate completing the whole 7 day challenge with one more task - overview what you did, and be proud of yourself that you did it. And put on a smile that, if you survived 7 days of this, you can survive doing so everyday!

Nevermind the cheesy tones... it only sounds cheesy if you have a negative-set mind like I do. lol I gotta stop doing that.

Let's just hope I can do this for once.

[HAIR] New haircut

This is me, from YEARS of having ratty long hair... transformed it into something more tamable and such. I like this bob a lot.

I was looking for a sort of... 'retro' 1920's (a.k.a. 'The Roarin' 20's) look, because it was a fad for ladies to cut their hair into a bob, and then put their hair into pretty finger waves.

Because I thought it was just so neat looking, and pretty. I wanted to try it. I never really get a chance to do anything like styling my hair, because I usually lack hairspray and such. So I just let it run wild and frizzy.

But at least it looks a lot better than it did when it was long. I'm going to let it grow out now, but I believe that I will have it cut short again.

[POLYVORE] Snow White and Rose Red

Miss Snow-White

Have you heard of the tale of Snow White and Rose Red?

Well, I was inspired somewhat to make these a long time ago. (Not to be confused with the 'Snow White' we all seem to know... the one that bit the apple.) This is the Snow White who helped a 'bear'.

I just thought that these outfits where beautiful at the time. I apologize for not being as whimsical and so fun like others. Moving on.

Sorry... Cinderella is lacking inspiration.

A thought I've been having...

Lolita and Disney land... No, bad idea. Not only will you have someone's kids following you around, thinking you're some sort of princess (it's cute but...) , but there are so many ways of getting temporarily stuck, having your dress caught on things, and blocking people's way with your massive frilly puffiness.

Also, the staff might have a problem with your wardrobe - though this might be a very slim chance, as none of the staff would know what Lolita Fashion is, or even wear it - but you might be asked to leave because they would think you're a Disney princess or something.

But this is all just me, really. I never looked up Disney meet-ups or trips on EGL (urrg... too lazy... too much effort... lol) but I guess I'm also just being paranoid.

Fantasy isn't always a good thing. See: Paranoia.

Blues, I'm feeling them.

Okay, I won't lie to you. I haven't been 'feeling' Lolita-ish at all for the past month, and most of this month as well. It's personal issues, most of which are things we all have heard of...

Body image issues, low self-esteem, lack of courage, and just general "omg I can't do this, so I won't" problems.

I knew I wouldn't be able to do this, so I tried anyway. I don't think this really counts as trying... I am so behind, there must have been a lot of things to talk about... And I owe October posts too, though I didn't do anything of the sort for Halloween. Because of money issues.

I cannot believe it. I am forced to quit before I begin. The only problem I have is gathering money... I really need a job, but I cannot afford to take time away from school, seeing as how this school I go to is very... Nevermind. I can catch up with all my work eventually. I just never seem to want to do it all, and get distracted, as more and more work is slapped onto our schedules. (Oh wait, I don't have a schedule...)

I think I should just changed the whole concept of this blog, or delete it. I'm sorry, I haven't tried hard enough. But I just cannot seem to get the money or time to do the things that I wanted to. So now... maybe I'll just post at least twice a week here. About anything Lolita related, and get my opinions out, and hopefully strike a nice conversation about opinions and the like. Just to make this blog a little less dusty.

I hope to get better, and a little less like a big coward soon.

[CRAFTS] Mini Beaded Crowns

Boy do I love making things from beads and such! A few years ago I have learned how to make little crowns from wire and beads, like the ones pictured here.

I just wanted to try it out, so that in the end I would have such a nice little accessory. I was hoping that with each little thing I made (which was/is usually jewelry stuff...) that I would get closer and closer to my ultimate goal: my first real pieces of lolita clothing.

Well, that day has yet to come still... right now I'm just going to have to make more of these cute little crowns and sell them, hopefully, so that I can purchase a real blouse at least. The one I got was a cheap one that I hoped to 'fix'. Ah ha haha... The less said about that blouse the better...

Anyway, I hope to soon get going on the crown tutorial I had promised myself I'd do this week.

I believe that no lolita is complete without having at least one crown or tiara. I have... plenty. Ha! I love collecting random things, and it so happens I collect jewelry and accessories, and other trinkets. But I always tuck them away, for another day. I never wear them, for I always tell myself to not wear it unless I am clean and well dressed.

These crowns are perfect for lolitas who wish to bring more of a 'princess' feel to her look. I say that all lolitas are princess-like anyway.

My Favorite Things... (and people!)

Mana.

I got into lolita because of him, as well as anime and manga. Though J-Pop and J-rock, visual kei, and awesome Sailor Moon rip-offs, I traveled from being just 'liking' it, to totally loving the style and trying to follow it. But... funny I heard of BABY, THE STARS SHINE BRIGHT before I heard of Moi-même-Moitié!

I had first heard a song by the famous group, Malice Mizer, which was a few years back... on the internet. A friend of mine, who was a citizen of Japan and hardcore fan of Dir en Grey, BOA, Ayumi Hamasaki and the like... and thought that since I liked a certain anime (I think it was Witch Hunter Robin or something) at the time, she shown me a few videos. Linked to one of these, was the Malice Mizer music video, Beast of Blood, and I was all like: holy crap! That's freaking awesome! So I looked more into the band, and fell in love. But...

Sadly, I fell in love too late, as it was 2006, and the band had disbanded a few years earlier, in 2001. I was saddened for a while, but then I continued to listen to them anyway. I started to read more on Mana, and learned he has founded Moi-même-Moitié, which we all know is the source of EGL and EGA, and one of the most (if not, THE most) sought after Gothic Lolita fashion brand. I can agree as to why it's wanted so much... just look at those gorgeous designs, even the simplest ones are just breathtaking. After all, Gothic Lolita was supposed to be about 'simple' and 'dark' beauty, right? That is a trait of Gothic Lolita.

This is one of the reasons why I love this fashion so much.

Blast from the Past: My First Alice Bow

Hey girls. Long time no post. I decided it was a bad idea, so I deleted the 'Princess Lessons' thing... yeah... too many people are already doing that anyway. It'll seem like I'm trying to be like them, or ripping them off. D: I don't want to do that so... Yeah, I'll just use this here blog as a personal blog about myself and my love for Lolita, like it originally was supposed to.

Anyway, today I bring... another blast from the past! Hell yeah.

So, back in 2007 or so, I thought I would take a whack at making one of those beautiful bows, right? Yeah, well, this was my first attempt. At first, I was all like: Yeah! This is awesome! This is right! But after a while I changed my mind... and it only took a whole month to realize that what I did was just wrong. BUT! I was learning! (Still am, too.)

What I learned from the ladies on EGL/Sewloli:
  • Wrong lace shape/size
  • Use grosgrain ribbon
  • Use interfacing
  • Make it not so big
  • Topstitch where we can't see it
I believe that was it. xD Here is me wearing it (where you can see me... and how really freaking huge it is, lol) :

Also I learned... BIG LOLITA NO-NO! Brush/comb hair, always!! (of course I was more

Also... opinions... should you all just call me 'Cinderella' or just by my real name? For some reason, some peoples at school started calling me Cinderella after spotting me editing this blog from school, so what do you think?

Blast from the Past: Brittany's Old Lolita Things

I thought I'd start out with something from my past... very embarrassing at times, but just too fun not to share anyway...

Well, about a few years ago, 2007 to be exact, I thought it would be great if I made my own lolita items. So, I chose to make rectangle headdresses from scratch. I thought it would be easy, yet I knew nothing about the basics of sewing. I had hand sewn these two (and eventually, several others) 'headresses' using just one piece of fabric, the wrong types of lace (also wrongly placed) and some satin ribbons, which weren't long enough to be tied successfully under my chin. But for some reason, I thought it was right, and I ended up liking them, not really noticing just what I've done. Ha ha ha.

Several months later, I found out just how horrible they were, and tossed them all out. I vowed to study more on the fashion and sewing together. So that I could make something correctly, and that looks nice. (I also had made some pieces of jewelry, but I'll save those for another post.)

Welcome to my new blog!

Hello! My name is Brittany, and this is a blog about my love for the lolita fashion and 'lifestyle'! I hope to post a lot of fun things here, about the life of a lolita, share my thoughts and learnings about the fashion I have gathered throughout the years and experiences. I also hope to take part in lolita events, travel, and lots of other things!
Why "Hey you, Cinderella!"?I chose this as a title, because I heard many stories of how 'mundanes' or normal civilians on the street see a lolita, and had called out to her about her attire. Usually something along the lines of, "Is that a cosume?" "It's not Halloween yet!" and "Get lost on the way to the runway?"
So I figured it would be a nice title! Because I know for sure that I will get picked at, and made fun of... BUT! That doesn't mean a thing, as long as I am happy with what I am wearing. I don't let them ruin my fun! Besides, they're right... I AM a fairy tale princess! Well, at least I dress like one. Hee hee.
What will we see here?
Lots of pictures of course! Daily outfits, Lolita events, crafts and jewelry, and maybe some tutorials, too. Also, essays and thoughts about the fashion, as well as tips that were passed to me, that I pass to you! I probably would put recipes up here if I didn't suck at cooking! xD But we'll see!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you all will enjoy reading "Hey you, Cinderella" and here's to a good start!
